Project Brief and requirements detail
βYou are a designer, chosen to design and illustrate a book cover for Harpercollins Childrenβs Books. This years book is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: Book 2 in the classic childrenβs fantasy adventure series (The Chronicles of Narnia). The book is due to re-released in April 2025 and a fresh new look is required to appeal to old and new audiences.
The design must demonstrate your understanding of visual narratives and the use of symbolism within design. The cover must incorporate considered typography in any way you think it suitable and appropriate for the book title. The design must be age appropriate for all audience and capture the essence of the story while not giving too much away.β
Below, you can see the evolution of this design and all of the different changes i made to the initial idea.
The addition of a wardrobe-shaped border encasing Narnia was used to symbolise the entrance to the magical land, highlighting the significant plot point of the children discovering where it leads.

The brief specified that one of our Instagram post designs must include some form of an animation. I chose to keep mine more on the simple side, so as not to distract from the key information.
